Maya Hansen Corset Collection SS 2012- Stylert.com
Maya Hansen is a Spanish designer who is specialized in corset couture. Her beautiful corsets combine modern design aesthetics with the antique techniques of corsetry. All her undergarments are made with a pure silk lining and stainless steel mesh double boning with detailing that should be shown off rather than hidden beneath clothes.
Maya Hansen was born in Madrid in 1978, from Argentinean father and Danish mother, Maya Carbajal Alex-Hansen. She graduated from Madrid Fashion Design Institute in 2002. She is the winner of the Spanish ICEP Port Fashion in Awards in 2000 and the CSDMM (Centro Superior de Diseño de Moda de Madrid) is, with a small production team, the core of Maya Hansen, founded in 2004 and based in Madrid. Maya Hansen produces all her goods in Spanish workshops.
During the early days, Maya Hansen was conceived as a gothic brand and got many retailers all over Spain, from Valencia to Seville, Barcelona, Coruña, Bilbao or Madrid, and even Europe and North America. Also on those days Maya Hansen dedicate some of her time to create some artists and bands costumes, such as it happened with metal band Mago de Oz or some others as Circus.
She focuses all the attention of the collections to the corset as the main garment. Maya dedicates the most of her time to investigate, learn and improve her corsetiere skills, compiling patterns, studying materials, fabrics and techniques and, then, she decides to innovate on them making new patterns adapted to XXIst century women.
Using high quality fabrics, trimmings and hardware from all around the world, Maya Hansen treats corset as a unique piece and even as an unrepeatable item, made with special care and always in small productions, using metal boning, waist cinchier tape and up to six layers of fabric on each piece of the pattern to make the corset solid and durable.
For her collection SS 2012, Maya Hansen showcases the crystal inspired corset made with 6,000 Swarovski element of different sizes, shapes and cuts. The amazingly sensual creation demanded absolute attention to detail to integrate such a large number of crystals into the garment’s fabric.
